Quarantine: What to Do If You Were Exposed to COVID-19

START PRECAUTIONS IMMEDIATELY.

• As soon as you find out that you were exposed, wear a mask.
• Start counting as Day 1 the first whole day after your last exposure.

MAINTAIN PRECAUTIONS FOR THE NEXT 10 FULL DAYS.

• Up to 10 days after exposure, you are still vulnerable to developing COVID-19.
• Wear a high-quality mask or respirator when there are people around you, whether at home or in public, indoor settings.
• Avoid going to places where you cannot wear a mask. For travel guidance, see CDC’s Travel webpage.
• If you are around people who may be more likely to get infected by COVID-19, take extra precautions.
• If you have symptoms, test immediately.
• If you were exposed to the virus but do not have symptoms, wait for at least 5 full days after your exposure before testing. Testing too early is more likely to get an inaccurate result.
• If at any time your test comes out POSITIVE, isolate immediately. Otherwise, continue taking precautions through Day 10.
